On this page it is usual to give a CV and a list of exams passed and certificates obtained (at the last count it was 20 +). I’m not going to inflict that on you (although if you really want a copy I can send you one). I’m educated to doctoral level (I’m Dr Tipper!) and lecture to postgraduates so I’m hoping that you’ll agree that I must have a brain. But, you ask, what sort? Well, as I’ve already mentioned on my Home page I’m incredibly inquisitive – I prefer that to nosey! – and this helps enormously when you’re a linguist because you are always listening to news channels, TV, radio and – other people’s conversations! At the same time you are gobbling up books, newspapers, websites – in French and Spanish for me – to feed your hunger for the language, the culture. I’ve done and still do all of this. I don’t think I’ll ever feel full!
I’ve lived in France and Spain for periods ranging from 6 months to 12 years, so I have lots of experience of these countries and understand their languages and cultures.
Over the last few decades I have not only translated and interpreted, I have taught in both France and England (PGCE). This has ranged from language classes for young children, secondary school pupils and undergraduates to training MA students to become interpreters and translators capable of working at the highest level in Europe and beyond. I love the personal contact teaching brings and the pride and joy I feel when students succeed.

I have experienced some tough times – cancer – and some good times – granddaughter’s birth – but overall I’m a great believer in having a positive attitude in life. Yes, we will all be thrown curveballs, as the Americans say, but we will all be gifted precious moments also. Life is magical!

Yes, I am off to the beautiful land of the Himalayas where I will be volunteering in a school in Bhaktapur, then taking a yoga and meditation course in Katmandu followed by a week of general sightseeing. When at the school I will be using my puppets to tell the children some Blanca Bonita stories – such fun is going to be had!
My creative spirit is ready to absorb, observe and integrate into a fascinating new culture that should have me bursting with inspiration. My notebooks will be in my bag so that the things I see and hear are made word. My sketch book and paints will be on hand for the beauty that surrounds me be made image. My camera will be poised to capture… everything!!
My Toronto DOUBLE book launch in November was a great success. It was a joy to be amongst such talented and welcoming people. I’d like to thank Michael Mirolla, Connie McParland and Laura Carter for arranging it. I have already been invited to do several readings here in the UK from the play “Smile, you’re getting old!” (by Evelyne Wilwerth). My hand puppet of Mr Loverat went down a storm in Toronto and he is hoping for the same success with the ladies here in the UK! My other translations are proceeding well and I have more projects in the pipeline with Guernica. These are exciting times.
